Entertainment for Summertime Fun

School is out for many and others will be finishing soon. And of course for some their children have been home for school. So, now that there is going to be more free time, what are some good ideas to help entertain and, even educate your children during their free time? I am going to give a few suggestions here.
First off, I found a website that offers free online video games. Many are like the games I used to play years ago. It is called Plays.org. I tried a few of the games and actually enjoyed them. Mazes and Keys was one of the games I tried. I actually enjoy trying to complete each maze. I personally prefer this type of game, that you have to think through. Of course there are also some fun games that truly have no purpose other than trying out your skills at hand eye coordination. Break Bubble is one of those, where you are trying to shoot and break bubbles before they bounce on you. Be sure to check out Plays.org and see what they have to offer.
Puzzles are another fun way to keep your children occupied over summer. I personally love puzzles and one of my favorite puzzles are from White Mountain Puzzles. I have found their puzzles to be worth the extra expense, because of the quality. Many puzzles today are made quite a bit cheaper and do not hold together as well as they used to. I do not have this issue with White Mountain Puzzles. You can even pic up huge sections and they stay together. I LOVE their vintage, collage puzzles. By vintage I mean the ones that are based on vintage toys, foods, games, restaurants, etc. We have a table we use to work puzzles as a family so we can work on one whenever we might have some free time.
Boardgames are another form of summer entertainment. Having raised 6 children we have had many favorites over the years. One of my sons loved Monopoly. So much so, that many family members started refusing to play Monopoly with him, because he took winning so seriously. Scrabble was one of my favorites, that I found both fun and educational. English and Spelling were two of my favorite subjects in school, so I enjoyed a game that strengthened spelling skills. (My children, not so much sometimes.) We of course played Yahtzee, Life, Clue and other boardgames, often turning g them into a family fun night with snacks included.
Card Games became another family favorite. It started with UNO and then branched out. Phase 10 is one we still play and recently my daughters discovered a game called Skull King when they visited some friends in Alabama. Skull King takes a little bit of time to learn, and you have to play with some strategy to win.
