What’s On in Copenhagen: July 2021

At the time of publishing, restrictions have eased and masks are now longer required in public spaces.
To be in a bar or restaurant indoors, you need a “coronapas,” meaning you need proof of a negative test within the last 72 hours or a vaccination card.

It’s July in Copenhagen and this means: peak summer. Life moves at a slower pace than usual and the word “holiday” is on many lips. While lots of locals relocate to their summer houses on the countryside or chase the sun abroad, those who are in the city are making the most of the long summer days (and nights).
Get ready Copenhagen events and summer activities such as loppedmarked (flea markets), concerts, and sun-drenched evenings outside.

Saturday 3rd – Sunday 4th July
Teglværkets Street Food Festival
Go on a culinary journey to Mexico, Iran, and more at Teglværkets Street Food Festival! Many of the participating stalls can be found around Copenhagen all year round so this is also a great way to discover new favourite hidden gems. Check out the Facebook event for more information.
RMC Jazz Fest
During the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, the Rhythmic Music Conservatory opens its doors to let you get a glimpse of the experiments that are taking place below the surface of the educational institution. Experience some of tomorrow’s most sparkling jazz stars in the surroundings of the conservatory, by the water overlooking Christiania.
Sunday 4th – Monday 5th July
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy at Store Vega
Danish 80s rock band Dizzy Mizz Lizzy is performing three extra concerts at Store Vega as part of its “Alter Echo” tour. The first one is already sold out but there are still tickets available for the second and third one on 4th and 5th July. Tickets cost 599 DKK. Doors open at 7 pm and the concerts start at 8 pm.
Sunday 4th July
Heartstone at Cinemateket
Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson’s film “Heartstone” is a beautiful tale of friendship and love, as raw as the Icelandic nature where it takes place. The film is set in a small fishing village and follows two boys at the threshold to adolescence: While Christian is pursuing his affections for a girl, Thor has to come to terms with the feelings he is developing for his best friend. The movie is recommended from 14 years up. It will be screened with Danish subtitles at 4 pm.
Country matinée with Camille Grey & Pete Westbrook at Tap 21 Craft Beer
Swing by Tap 21 Craft Beer in Frederiksberg for some country music and a cold beer! Camille Grey and Pete Westbrook will perform from 3-5 pm. Tickets cost 180 DKK and include one draft beer or one glass of wine.

Brønshøj Summer Jazz 2021
Get ready for a good time when Brønshøj Sommer Jazz is taking over Pilegårdens gård. The local jazz festival has a focus on high quality music and community, so bring a few friends and enjoy some hygge. Tickets are available via Billetto.
Monday 5th – Friday 16th July
Woodworking Summer School
Looking to acquire a new hobby or to turn that furniture dream into reality? In this 2-week summer school, you’ll learn all the basics while working on three different projects. From wood selection and dimensioning through fine joinery to gluing and finishing, you’ll go through every step of the process. And if you fancy an after-work swim, the workshop is located right at the waterfront. Find more information on the website, tickets cost 11,000 DKK.
Tuesday 6th – Sunday 11th July
EM at Absalon
The European Championship goes into the last meters and whether you’re a football pro or mostly in it for the community aspect, getting together to watch the last matches is always a good idea. Watch the semi-finals and final at Absalon. Tickets are free but seats are limited, so either reserve your ticket in advance or try your luck on the spot. From 9-11 pm.
EM at Reffen
Reffen’s workshop will be streaming semi-finals and final – admission is free but please reserve a table in advance. When reserving you’ll also purchase a 100 DKK voucher that can be used at the bar.
Tuesday 6th July
ÅBEN Pop Up: Long Table Dinner in the Meatpacking District
Throughout summer, ÅBEN is hosting a Popup in Copenhagen’s popular Meatpacking District. This Tuesday, they have teamed up with chef Thomas Brink Lorenz to serve you a three course dinner with a seasonal menu matching one (or more) of the beers from the bar. Bring your friends or family and enjoy a summer evening in good company. Tickets cost 195 DKK per person and include dinner as well as one draft beer. If you’d like to attend please reserve via direct message. The event will take place from 6-11 pm.
Thursday 8th July
IG Live: Gilad Rosner on Privacy + Trust by SPACE10
How can technology improve our experience of privacy and trust at home? Join IoT Privacy Forum founder Gilad Rosner and SPACE10’s Tony Gjerlufsen for a conversation on data, identity, and the policy necessary to advocate for privacy. This event will take place on Instagram Live – via @space10 at 4 pm.
Friday 9th – Sunday 11th July
Rört Festival 21 – We think you belong
Rört Festival is a three day event focused on movement. Explore what moving alone, together with others, and in tune with nature does to your body and mind, join talks or concerts, and experience community. All workshops will be held in English. Learn more and buy tickets on the festival website. Tickets cost 1,495/1,995 DKK and there will be only 150 spots available.
Wednesday 14th July
Absalon x GoBoat: Musicbanko
Absalon and GoBoat are hosting a joint banko and you’re in for a fun time – Come on board to play banko while sailing up and down the river in the southern part of the harbor. Meeting spot is at the GoBoat pier at 5 pm, the event goes until 8:30 pm. The game will be played in Danish. Tickets cost 1,400 DKK per boat, so 175 DKK per person if you are 8 people on board.

Red Bull Copenride on BLOX
Red Bull is bringing 20 of the world’s best mountain bike Slopestyle riders to Copenhagen. Come by when they show their wildest tricks and highest jumps right next to the Copenhagen Canal.

In Hans Christian Andersen’s footsteps
Experience Copenhagen through the eyes of one of Denmark’s most famous authors, Hans Christian Andersen. From 10 – 12 am. Tickets for adults cost 135 DKK, for children 55 DKK.
Saturday 17th July
A Clockwork Orange at Husets Biograf
Few films are as sensational or infamous as Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange”. Despite having won several awards, it remains controversial, especially due to the depiction of graphic violence. The film follows a young man, Alex DeLarge, and chronicles the horrific crime spree of his gang, his capture, and attempted rehabilitation via an experimental psychological conditioning technique promoted by the Minister of the Interior. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the screening starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost 70 DKK and can only be paid in cash or via mobile pay.
Sunday 18th July
Danish on a Sunday: The Word
Carl Theodor Dreyer’s award-winning film “The Word” (Danish: Ordet) is a 1955 Danish drama, based on a play by Kaj Munk. The film centers around the Borgen family as it navigates faith and love in rural Denmark during the autumn of 1925. It will be screened at 4:45 pm.

Musik i Lejets Sommersol
“Lejets Sommersol” is bringing an exciting mix of music, art, and gastronomy to the charming beachside town of Tisvildeleje. Yes, you’re reading right – this festival is not taking place in Copenhagen but as the coast of Northern Zealand is essentially the capital’s backyard, we just can’t not include it. So grab some friends and head less than an hour north to catch some beach and festival vibes.

ENGAGE i Kastellet
Experience the beautiful surroundings of Kastellet in a new way: From 12 noon to 10 pm, the air will be filled with music and laughter – so bring some friends and enjoy a fun day out. Check out the Facebook page to stay tuned in regards to the lineup, tickets are available via Ticketmaster.
Sunday 25th July
A Bigger Splash at Cinemateket
Love, desire, and murder on an island in the Mediterranean – “A Bigger Splash” has it all. Loosely based on the 1969 Jacques Deray film “La Piscine” and named after the 1967 David Hockney painting, the film is the second installment in Luca Guadagnino’s self-described Desire trilogy, following “I Am Love” (2009) and preceding “Call Me By Your Name” (2017). “A Bigger Splash” will be screened with Danish subtitles at 7:15 pm.

Blaagaards Festival
Swing by Blågårds Plads for music, delicious food, and good company. The festival celebrates the diverse ethno-cultural landscape of the neighborhood but whether you live in the area or not, everyone is welcome to join. Friday 30th – Saturday 31st July
Open Air at King’s Garden
Open air cinema season is here! Come and watch Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” (Friday) as well as Tornatore’s “Cinema Paradiso” (Saturday) in the beautiful surroundings of King’s Garden. Entry is free and there will be the opportunity to buy food and drinks on site. The films will be screened at 9:45 pm but DJs will be playing from 5 pm so you are welcome to drop by earlier.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival
Every single summer since 1979, Copenhagen Jazz Festival has been taking over the city as one of Europe’s most important international music events. Throughout July, there will be concerts all over Copenhagen – Enjoy some jazz in the streets, cafés, concert halls, and open air venues in the heart of the city. Copenhagen has a special relationship to jazz: In the 1950s and 60s, a group of American jazz icons had their creative base in the city, laying the foundation for a thriving local scene. Get a taste of this fascination and enjoy programs for true enthusiasts, first timers, children, pensioners, and much more.
Friday Rock at Tivoli
Every summer, the popular amusement park Tivoli is offering an exciting series of concerts in the heart of Copenhagen. The concerts are free for Tivoli card holders. Find more information on the website.
SPACE10 Exhibition: Climate Layers
From 25th May through October, you can see an exhibition in collaboration with RNDR, Lenschow & Pihlmann, and Tableau at SPACE10 in Kødbyen. The exhibition imagines how to visualize data on how climate stressors (e.g. cyclones, droughts, etc) are affecting the planet. Stop by Tuesday – Friday from 9 am – 4 pm.
Nimb Roof Sunday Cookout
Cold drinks, barbecue, DJs and Nimb’s rooftop, the perfect ingredients for a summery Sunday evening. Tickets cost 850 DKK and include dinner, one glass of champagne to start, and half a bottle of rosé to keep your thirst quenched.
ÅBEN Pop-Up in the Meatpacking District
For the second time, ÅBEN is hosting a Popup in Copenhagen’s popular Meatpacking District. Swing by for beer yoga, quiz nights, flea markets, DJ sets, and much more throughout summer. Check out the website or social channels for upcoming special events such as long table dinners.
Kirchner and Nolde Up for Discussion at Statens Museum for Kunst
In its major spring exhibition, Statens Museum for Kunst puts the spotlight on two giants within modern art. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Emil Nolde became famous for their innovative use of strong colours and bold brushstrokes, often inspired by people, ways of life, and cultures from Africa and Oceania. Now their interpretations of these elements are put up for discussion. What picture did the two powerful artists paint of African or Oceanic cultures? Can art be separated from the abuses of colonial power? And do Kirchner and Nolde still matter to our present-day debates on racism? Rather than on answers, the exhibition focuses on asking questions and invites you to join the discussion. It is on display until 1st August.
Laure Prouvost – Our Elastic Arm Hold in Tight Through the Clouds at Kunsthal Charlottenborg
Kunsthal Charlottenborg is reopening its doors with Turner prize winning artist Laure Prouvost who represented France at the 58th International Art Biennial in Venice. It’s the artist’s first solo exhibition in Scandinavia. Laure Prouvost is especially known for her installations that blur the line between fiction and reality. Her works are often immersive and explore the ambiguities of language. The exhibition will be on display until 8th August.
Auguste Rodin – Displacements at Glyptoteket
Auguste Rodin is highly regarded for his sculptures. What might be less known is the role that his fascination with antiquities played for his sculptural experiments. With “Displacements” Glyptoteket sheds light on the way the artist incorporated his collection of antiquities into his working process. The exhibition is a collaboration with the Musée Rodin in Paris and the result of a research project at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and Aarhus University, conducted by the curator/PhD student Christine Horwitz Tommerup. It will be on display until 15th August.
Anne Imhof – Sex at Statens Museum for Kunst
Experience acclaimed German artist Anne Imhof in the x-room, SMK’s venue for contemporary art. In this exhibition, Imhof displays a three-and-a-half-hour long film that combines mediated footage from her performance at Tate Modern in 2019 with a new sound score. It is the fourth chapter of her serial work “Sex” and will be on display until 29th August.
Mother at Louisina Museum of Modern Art
With “Mother” Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is examining motherhood and the figure of the mother from a cultural-historical, philosophical, psychological, and artistic perspective. Bringing together works by some of the greatest artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, the story is unfolded over time leading up to the present day. The exhibition will be on display until 29th August.
Anette Harboe Flensburg – In Arcadia Too You Can Die at Kunstforeningen GL Strand
The Montana Hall is a meeting room in which visual artists explore the significance of the framework for meeting situations. Since May and until next spring, it will feature Anette Harboe Flensburg’s paintings. With the title, „In Arcadia Too You Can Die“, Harboe Flensburg reflects over the present situation, where our everyday life has been fundamentally changed and we have been forced to reconsider our ideals.
