Powder rooms are often designed to be the jewel-box of the home, so when the entire home is a stunning work of art, the powder room has to step it up to the next level. Such was the objective of this powder room, part of a larger renovation of a home situated in the exclusive Biscayne Bay-area neighborhood Cocoplum.
In order to make this powder room pop against the backdrop of subdued colors and textures in the rest of the home, designer Sandra Diaz-Velasco, of Eolo A&I Design, set out to create a lavish space with a bold and vibrant color palette.
The room featured tall and narrow dimensions, creating drama with its soaring ceiling height but also necessitating creative space-maximizing solutions. A striking red modular lighting fixture laid the groundwork for an opulent theme that would still harmonize with the rest of the home, centering the palette on vibrant reds and drawing inspiration from the fixture’s geometric elements.
A Stone Forest Zero Pedestal Sink, ceiling-mounted Gessi faucet and low-profile, wall-mounted toilet create a feeling of spaciousness in the small space and provide a subtly edgy, contemporary sleekness.

Tucson, AZ
Lori Carroll, of Lori Carroll & Associates, was tasked with finding a way of incorporating lumber salvaged from the homeowner’s family homestead in the Midwest into this Tucson, AZ powder room.
Carroll went into the project with an awareness that such a large amount of reclaimed wood “might have an overwhelming effect on the space,” so she focused on creating a design that seamlessly blended the rustic influence of the wood with the contemporary atmosphere of the rest of the home.
After going through a lead paint remediation process, the wood was hand-sawed and assembled into a horizontal pattern to create two eye-catching focal walls. Elements such as bronze metal accent tiles, a walnut floating vanity with a sculptural white porcelain sink and a wall-hung toilet help the space to maintain a sleek, contemporary flavor.

New York, NY
Designers Paris Kostopoulos and Tina Psoinos of Paris K Design are of the opinion that “a powder room must exude an aura of mystery and have an almost theatrical presence,” and the design they created for this two-apartment conversion is no exception.
The back wall sparkles with custom handmade Italian tile sourced from Alchemy Tile, complemented by plumbing fittings and accessories from California Faucets in a contemporary satin gold. A wall-hung Duravit toilet and freestanding Badeloft column sink make efficient use of the available space and provide a bright, curvy and contemporary contrast to the vividly colored tiles.
LED lighting from Modern Forms and Edge Lighting is hidden in unexpected places, such as behind the vanity mirror, lending an extra touch of theatrical flair to the dramatic space.
