Complete Kitchen Remodel with Ivory Cabinets and Quartz Counters

Have you noticed a theme in the last few kitchen features we have shared here lately? They are all painted and highlighted finishes! Wood stains are holding steady in popularity, and white painted cabinets are still trending strong… but painted cabinetry with highlighted details is having a trending moment this year with no signs of slowing down. This kitchen feature is a fantastic example of a great paint, highlight, and door style choice. Let’s take a look around this complete kitchen remodel with Ivory cabinets, quartz counters, and gray oak hardwood flooring in Geneseo, Illinois.

The finished space is a U-shaped kitchen layout with a doorway to access the laundry room, garage, and a new drop zone. A peninsula is replaced with a large single-level island at the center with overhang for counter-height seating. The new space is so much brighter with light material choices like the cabinet finish and countertop selections. Koch Cabinetry in the Ridgegate door is painted in the “Ivory” finish with an “Umber” Highlight applied. Ridgegate is a mitered corner door with 2 1/2″ stiles and rails and features a flat panel at the center.

What is a Painted and Highlighted Cabinet?

So, what do we mean a “highlighted” cabinet finish? Painted finishes can be ordered with an accent color to help enhance the details of cabinetry. Our Koch line offers three choices of highlights that can be applied to any painted finish: Ebony, Smoke, and the Umber you see used here. The outside and inside edges of the rails and stiles (cabinet door frame) on the “Ridgegate” doors collect the highlight color so well. The wall cabinetry in this kitchen stretches all the way to the ceiling with a bead of detail for the highlight color to catch in as well. Look at the images above and below here to see how the highlight adds so much details to the cabinetry. We love the added detail with the highlight showing on the baseboard that surrounds the kitchen island.

Before and After Wall and Closet Removals

The remodel transformation in this Geneseo home is not just limited to the original kitchen footprint. We revamped a desk area, an adjacent living room, and the entire front entryway stairwell during this process. You can see more photos of the kitchen and spaces surrounding it here on our Houzz page. One of the biggest “glow up” moments in this remodel is the desk area’s new look. We removed a walled-in closet and pantry and installed a better serving layout for this corner of activity.

Hall Closet Transformed Into a Drop Zone

Around the corner from the kitchen is a new drop zone area. Near the garage access and laundry room, this landing zone will keep the household organized and the clutter away from the kitchen island. We removed the closet and doors and installed a wide space of deep base cabinets, charging shelves, and other storage. What a great way to use this area PLUS an actual landing zone of countertop surface. The kitchen island steps away is still perfect for large landing-zone needs like grocery unloading, and this counter can be for handbags, keys, phones, etc.

Kitchen Hutch Area

The location of the old desk and pantry wall is now one long hutch section of cabinetry and countertop. This new space is a cohesive part of the new kitchen, but sets itself apart with a glass door section and a change in depth for the wall cabinets. It is amazing how much bigger the entire kitchen looks by removing the walled-in pantry and using that full length of space for more cabinets.

The wall tile in this kitchen may also look familiar. Since we installed it in our own showroom last year, we have sold a lot of projects using this uniquely shaped tile. The Aggranite “Setteccento” crayon tile in a “Matte White” finish looks amazing here. As a nod to the cabinet highlight, we installed the tile with a contrasting “Chamois” grout. This elongated, geometric tile is a welcomed change from the subway tile we see so much of.

A glass-front beverage cooler has been installed in the hutch area. This cooler and the countertop space above it makes it the perfect beverage station in the new kitchen design. Looking to add a beverage cooler to your space? Ask an appliance expert at Village Home Stores about our options. The glass-door on this unit from Whirlpool can be reversed to hinge either direction. The kitchen countertop surfaces are an engineered quartz from our MSI line. The marble-look design is named “Calacatta Valentin” and we installed it here with a standard “Eased” edge profile applied.

Apron Farm Sink and Versatile Spray Faucet with Wave Control

An apron farmsink named “Whitehaven” is installed in this Geneseo, Illinois home with the “Graze” kitchen faucet. Both of these fixtures are from Kohler and work well with many styles of spaces. This pull-down spray head has 3 functions: stream, Sweep® spray, and BerrySoft® spray. The pull-down sprayer has a magnetic docking system to securely lock the sprayer into place when you aren’t using it. Want to see a cool feature the faucet has? Head here to the Village Home Stores YouTube Page. It has a wave-control on/off setting. Any “hands-free” feature you can add to a busy kitchen makes life simpler.

An Accent of Dirftwood Grey

But this kitchen isn’t all Ivory painted cabinetry, there are accents of warm gray everywhere. We ordered a wood range hood from Koch along with the cabinetry to be used as a main accent piece. This tapered wood range hood with horizontal lines gives a shiplap look and can look great painted or stained. We used a Rustic Beech wood for the hood and the warm, “Driftwood” stain from the Koch line was applied.

Wood Range Hoods in a Kitchen Design

We love the finished look of a wood range hood in a kitchen design. Eliminating the microwave or metal hood area can make for a magazine-cover worthy look. Check out the wall treatment in the void space between this range hood cabinet and the wall cabinetry. We love the contrast that the “Driftwood” gray adds and the compliment it has with the warm “Umber” cabinet highlights. So what goes inside of a wood hood like this to make it functional? Customers from Village Home Stores have several options. We will work with you and your kitchen designer to help decide what amount of ventilation is required for your cooktop below, as well as how the range hood will be venting out of the home. Don’t have a way to vent out? We even have recirculating options available. The wood range hood in this home includes a Broan insert.

Provenza Engineered Hardwood Floors

The new flooring in the kitchen and nearby rooms involved with this remodel project is stunning! Almost as stunning as the model below showing it off for us. In the image below, “Gracie” helps us showcase her new Provenza engineered hardwood flooring from Village Home Stores. This is a wire-brushed oil finished wood from the “Heirloom Oak” collection. The Heirloom Collection is a wire brushed, hand scraped, hand distressed, carbonized, and smoked hardwood floor with a naturally beautiful oil finish that highlights its timeless style. We are completely obsessed with the many tones and textures that come through in this wood flooring selection.

What do we mean when we say this was a complete start-to-finish remodel with Village? That means that the conversations about this project began with a casual meeting in our showroom and from there we guided this customer step by step, selection by selection, and day by day through the process. We created an expert design and collected all of the necessary estimates from subcontractors. A contractor meeting was held at the jobsite to discuss our plan in detail and hone in on the exact needs for those estimates. Our customer was presented a detailed estimate including the needed products and the inclusion list of work to be done. Once products began to arrive we compiled a project calendar accessed in our login software and got to work. There are many steps in between this general description, but the main takeaway is we have a system! Projects large or small, the first step is always the same, just reach out. Fire up the webchat here , call us at 309-944-1344 or complete this short online form and a member of our team will be in touch.
