With prices climbing in Hoboken and Jersey City, commuters are looking for more affordable yet convenient options across the Hudson. Bayonne is situated between Staten Island and Jersey City and is easily accessible via the Light Rail. Though the city has seen a lot of luxury development along the waterfront, it also has a healthy stock of single-family homes that offer a cool combo of urban and somewhat suburban living. Take this three-bedroom townhouse; it was built in 1891 and today retains much of its historic architecture, along with gorgeous modern upgrades, a sunroom and a mudroom, a detached garage, and a large yard. The best part? It’s asking just $650,000–which will barely get you a one-bedroom apartment on the other side of the river.

According to the listing, the home was recently updated while preserving its historic details. It’s a total of 2,516 square feet and has three bedrooms plus a den and three bathrooms.

The heated sunroom is completely charming, with loads of windows and shiplap walls. It’s likely that this was a more modern addition, as the home’s tall ornate doors open to the main home.

On either side of the elegant foyer–complete with a shimmering chandelier and oak and walnut hardwood floors–are the living and dining rooms. The living room is large enough for two distinct sitting areas and features antique radiators, gorgeous moldings, a ceiling medallion, and one of the home’s two fireplace mantles.

The other fireplace mantle is located in the dining room, which also has a convenient closet.

A small butler’s pantry leads to the kitchen, which is brand new. It has a two-seat island, vented range, farmhouse sink, and tons of cabinet space.

Off the kitchen is a powder room and a mudroom that also leads to the backyard.

On the second floor are the bedrooms and a full bathroom. The primary bedroom includes an alcove that can be used as a walk-in closet/dressing room or as a nursery.

A fourth room on the second floor is currently set up as a home office but could easily be another bedroom.

As mentioned, there are a basement and an attic, though neither is finished. The basement does have a half bath, new tankless water heater, and a washer/dryer

Outside, a patio is perfect for outdoor dining. There’s a large grassy lawn, as well as a detached 23′ x 20′ garage with a large loft space.

The home is located on the quiet block between East 3rd and East 4th Streets, in Bayonne’s East Bergen Point section. It’s just a couple blocks from the waterfront Dennis P. Collins Park, where you’ll find tennis courts, a skate park, a baseball field, and a playground. It’s also a quick walk to all the shops and restaurants along Broadway, as well as to the 8th Street Light Rail station that connects to the PATH train and New York ferry.
